Rhabdo – no joke

Rhabdo in CrossFit is often featured as a clown who is hooked to an IV and bleeding.  Well, Rhabdomyolysis is not a joke.  It’s a serious condition where an athlete works too hard, the muscle tissues breakdown and enter the bloodstream, getting to the kidneys, which shut then shut down due to excessive potassium and myoglobin.

This article is a must read for everyone / anyone who does CrossFit, especially newbies and those who are returning after an extended layoff.  KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS !!!

I’ve got issues…

Ok, you all knew that.  But not that kind of issue.

My dilemma is when should I post the WOD.  I don’t mind posting it early, as some of you will wear clothing  / shoes to match the workout.  Also, it does help you get into the right frame of mind.

However, I also debate if it’s more fun for you guys to show up and then see the workout - believe me, I do enjoy the looks of dread and dislike after looking at the workout.

There’s another issue, which I don’t think has happened yet.  However, there may be the occassions when someone sees a WOD and doesn’t like it.  Maybe it’s heavy lifting and you don’t like going heavy, or maybe you hate pull ups, or suck at running.  Regardless, we DON’T PICK AND CHOOSE !!!  We want to be well-rounded athletes – good at everything – heavy lifting, running, metcons, learning new skills.  Constantly varied – if you only do the things you like and are good at, then you lose out on the genius behind CrossFit.  CrossFit challenges us to improve on the exercises we are not good at and doing things that make us uncomfortable.

So please, don’t pick and choose workouts based on what you enjoy and avoiding the things you don’t.

Keep up the great work and keep improving !!!
