World-Class Fitness in 100 Words:

An excerpt from CrossFit Journal

■ Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.

■ Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds.
Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.

■ Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.

■ Regularly learn and play new sports.

Testimonials

“At first I was a little skeptical about the concept of CrossFit. How can such short workouts possibly get me in better shape than my current circuit training routine at the gym combined with jogging? Even after a few weeks I noticed I was much stronger, really enjoyed the camaraderie, and did not miss the gym one bit. CrossFit is very empowering and the benefits reach far beyond the time spent at the gym.”

“I spent 10 years on my treadmill working out 45 min. to 1 hr. 4 times/week so naturally I assumed I was in good shape… Once I started Top Gun Crossfit, I realized I was only in good shape for the limited movements on my treadmill. The Crossfit program utilizes numerous muscles and strings of muscles in the functional everyday movements and workouts. It’s high intensity workouts that are constantly varied and we’re never doing the same routine, so our muscles are always challenged. It also focuses on endurance and recovery with the different movement combinations and improving skill level i.e. hand-eye coordination. Some workouts are under 10 minutes and some are longer-but the best part is no workout is over 25 minutes. Bye-bye to wasting hours on the treadmill!

When you begin, you’ll find that you’re getting reacquainted with your muscles and discover ones you never knew you had. You’ll be sore at first, but it’s a good sore knowing that you’re pushing yourself outside of your normal comfort routine. Push through it and you can feel yourself getting stronger. It’s all scalable to each individual’s fitness level, so don’t worry about starting at the Beginner level-you’ll be at the next level in no time. Don’t procrastinate by saying you need to loose weight or get stronger first before coming to class-coming to the Top Gun Crossfit classes are how you do those two things!
When I was on my treadmill for hours I needed the TV on and music from my earphones to keep me going-with Top Gun Crossfit, all I need is the team setting of my fellow Crossfitters for motivation!”

“I’ve seen impressive gains in both strength and endurance in a very short time, much more so than with my old routine of weights/cardio. I started crossfit on my own in a big box gym and while that was a good introduction I still felt something was missing. When I saw the crossfit banner hanging on the gym door I decided to check it out and I’m glad I did. Steve is a great trainer and the rest of the crew make training something to look forward to instead of looking forward to getting it over with.”

- Tom a.k.a. “Jester”

I’ve spent many hours of many years engaged in various exercise regimens working to maintain a reasonable level of fitness to accomodate my interest in a variety of outdoor activities and in my work which is occasionaly physically demanding.  I found myself doing basically the exact same workout for years on end.  Some of the unintended consequences of that approach for me was nagging repetitive movement injuries, unbalanced muscle development and seriously limited range of motion issues.  What I’ve enjoyed most from my two years of Crossfit training is the constant variety and emphasis on functional strength exercises completed with the guidance of a trained instructor.  I feel stronger and have been surprised by how the group training dynamic improves motivation and the fitness experience.  Crossfit is an excellent program, Steve does a great job instructing and I think anyone could benefit from this program!
